Krowji accessibility

Krowji’s buildings are spread out across a 1.5 acre site and have varying degrees of accessibility.  We are starting to build two new blocks of DDA compliant workspaces in late 2011, but in the meantime we have made a number of modifications and improvements to our existing spaces as follows:

Main building & Melting Pot cafe:

There is reasonably level access via a new front door to the right of the existing stepped access main door.  The new doorway will be converted to an electric door soon and the current 50 mm / 2 inch step will be levelled.

Once inside the main building there is level access to:

- the foyer

- the cafe

- the meeting rooms W14, W15a & W15b at the rear of the cafe.

- Studios W11a/b/d, W13 and W26 – W30

There is a new accessible WC located outside W11d near the new entrance.

There is no wheelchair access to the first floor (Studios W17 – 25).

Science Block:

There is level access to the Science Block studios via the front and rear doors, although these double doors currently have narrow single leaves (650 mm / 25.5 inches) and wheel chair users may need assistance in order to unbolt the second door.

There is a ramp down from the car park to the south door of the Science Block – this ramp is slightly steeper than the recommended gradient for wheelchair use.  Access to the north doors is across a more level parking area which has recently been repaved to improve the surface.  Both sets of Science Block external doors are usually locked during the day for security purposes so visitors may need to notify the person they are coming to see in advance.

Once inside, there is level access to studios W1 to W10.  There is an easy-entry WC which is only partially DDA compliant at present.

Krowji reception, Carn to Cove, ACT, Creative Skills, Cornwall Film Festival and Miracle Theatre offices:

We regret that these are currently inaccessible to wheelchair users, but we hope to be able to make the main reception office accessible soon.

Elliott Hut (FEAST, TR14ers and Cornwall Music Forum):

We regret that this is currently inaccessible to wheelchair users, but we shall be moving these projects to newly refurbished accessible offices by June 2011.
